But you can’t tuna fish .. that doesn’t make much sense now, but it will by the time you get to the end of this entry. Last night my good friend Terry Evanswood came over for a visit. For those in the magic world .. you already know who I’m talking about. I’ve know Terry even before he was driving .. that would over twenty years ago. We both worked the Chicago area, hitting the same spots year after year .. one year they would have Terry .. next year they would have me. We were each others competition .. yet we always remained friends. At times it was like a game, we had fun trying to one up each other. About ten years ago, Terry picked up and moved his show down to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. This past week, he was in town for the holidays, visiting friends and family. All week long, he looked forward to getting a tuna sandwich at a Chicagoland favorite, Portillo’s. I remember he said he was past starving when we met at 9:00pm. We sat down at the table and dug in .. but something was wrong, the sandwich he ordered was frozen inside. Terry brought it up to the counter and to no surprise, they said they thought so. The tuna came in frozen and they couldn’t cook it properly. They offered him a hamburger, he’s a vegetarian .. so a cup of onion soup would have to do. Poor Terry got a refund and was still hungry when we left .. but the night wasn’t a total loss. We stopped at my house with his nephew Ryne and my brother, Jeff. We watched some magic videos and then popped in some Merril Howard Kalin to finish off the night. I can’t really explain Merril right now .. but those who are the know .. get it. It’s always fun to share some time with Terry .. especially when he’s not trying to bump off the competition.
